The International Day of Happiness, celebrated for the first time
in 2013, an activity led by Action for Happiness has encouraged
people to select their "Happy Heroes", those special people
and organizations who go above and beyond to bring happiness to
the lives of others, around the world.

*The General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution
on June 28th, 2012, by which it invited Member States to pursue
the elaboration of additional measures that better capture the importance
of the pursuit of happiness and well-being in development with a
view to guiding their public policies. The resolution stated that;
* The pursuit of happiness is a fundamental goal,
* It is important to recognize the importance of happiness and wellbeing
as aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and
develop public policies around these aspirations;
* There is a need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach
to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty
eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples.
Thus deciding to proclaim March 20th the International Day of Happiness,
all Member States, other international and regional organizations,
as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations
and individuals, were invited to observe the International Day of
Happiness in an appropriate manner, to raise public awareness.
